I’m Jeanette Burney, PT, RYT
I am a physical therapist turned yoga teacher, a BoneFit Instructor and teacher of Fishman Yoga vs Osteoporosis who strives to create hope and a plan for people with aging bodies. I believe quality of life matters and that we all need movement in our lives.
I have had many years of repeated and nonsensical injuries that would stop me in my tracks, taking me away from the athletics that I really love. A random fall skiing injured my shoulder. I was unable to go to my weekly yoga class that was a key stress management tool. I felt isolated and depressed. A home practice prescribed by my yoga teacher lifted me back up giving my overactive mind something to do. The poses created strength and flexibility while my body recovered.
My yoga teacher training and then certifying to teach the Fishman Yoga vs Osteoporosis has focused my career. I find myself teaching yoga through the lens of a physical therapist, using the postures, the breathing exercises, and the mindset to help my clients with osteoporosis feel confident, strong, agile and less stressed.
Sometimes we believe we can't trust our body perform due to osteoporosis or because we feel as if we injure ourselves in our sleep as we age.
What I know and believe to be true is that when you work with someone who understands your body, understands your body at different stages of life and understands the medical issues that may arise, it takes the struggle out of exercise and makes it fun again.
That is what I help people do every day. I meet you where you are.
