      What people are saying…

Claire asks, “Can I hike with osteoporosis? I enjoy exploring the great Maine woods but I don’t trust my balance and I’m afraid I might fall.”

The fear of falling is all too real for many individuals but especially someone with osteoporosis. After working with me she felt empowered by her yoga practice to improve bone density, core strength and balance and had learned to move in ways to protect her spine with daily activities. Now she was able to return to her love of hiking confidently.

Sally admits, “I miss half my exercise class with friends because I am in the bathroom for fear of an accident. I miss our time spent together.”

I hear this all too often from women! And the truth is, you don’t have to remain sidelined by your bladder. Physical therapy techniques aimed at targeting the right muscle groups have helped many of my clients resume and enjoy active lifestyles and have them say goodbye to incontinence.

Mary laments, “I avoid playing on the floor with my grandchildren because it hurts.”

Through careful planning and a whole-body approach to her care, we customized a modified yoga practice to strengthen supporting muscles and improve her joint health, making it possible for her to play alongside her grandchildren on the floor.

If any of these stories sound familiar to you, schedule a call so we can discuss how to get you back to enjoying these years.

“Thank you for the loving care you extend to your yoga students. With your direction, I am able to solidly focus on my practice. After your Restorative Yoga Class, I was so deeply relaxed. My compliments and gratitude.”
      — Janice Kimball Prokop

“Jeanette is one of the most outstanding practitioners in her field. That she has bridged the gap between knowing her gift and conveying it to students is nothing short of artful. She is a teacher of teachers and an inquisitive genius who constantly seeks a deeper understanding of all the questions she asks, is asked, and is presented with as the alive world of science pulses new opportunities forward. She catches them, runs with them, shares them.”

Physical Therapy and Wellness, Yoga for Osteoporosis-osteopenia

      Hello, I’m Jeanette.

I am a Women’s Health and Orthopedic Physical Therapist.

In 2007, I found myself struggling with a shoulder injury. As a Physical Therapist, I knew what I needed to do for my injury but I was frustrated and felt that my body had failed me.

Because I was unable to participate in my usual exercise routine including my favorite yoga class, I signed up for a series of private Yoga Sessions designed to address my imbalances, offered core awareness, and quietly supported my shoulder as it healed. Most of all, the sequences that I practiced at home gave me something to “do” while my body healed. I felt as if a weight had been lifted. There was hope and confidence that I could once again return to the activities I enjoyed. And with time and consistent practice, I achieved my goals.

My injury journey fueled my passion to combine yoga practices with the art and science of physical therapy while guiding empty nesters sidelined by osteoporosis, nagging aches and pains and sometimes embarrassing symptoms to regain their freedom through my whole-body approach.  I believe in treating the whole body, not just the broken part because I have experienced this myself. It would be an honor to do the same for you.

I have been active in sports for most of my life. I was involved in youth soccer, basketball, and softball as a kid. Then I turned to running, mountain biking, and road biking to reach my early adult fitness goals. Now, yoga has become my go-to movement and breathing practice for exercise and stress management.

Life is meant to be full of fun and adventure. If you’ve been sidelined by nagging aches and pains,  together we can build a practice that allows you to maintain your active lifestyle.

      Yoga for Osteoporosis-Osteopenia

      Have you ever been told…

      • You have Osteoporosis or Osteopenia

      • You are at risk for fractures

      • “Don’t bend and twist”

      • “Don’t fall”

      • Do weight bearing exercise

      Naturally, you…

      • Start a walking program

      • Then stop when the weather gets cold or wet

      • You try going to the gym

      • You try a balance class

      • But you don’t like the crowds and the noise

      The problem is…

      • you hate exercise

      • you have no idea what exercises to do

The truth is being active doesn’t have to be a struggle.

By connecting with someone who understands your body at different stages of life and who understands medical issues that show up, we can take the struggle out of exercise and make it fun again so you can stay active and keep up with your friends and grandchildren.

      • Improve your bone density score

      • Improve your balance

      • Help you feel stronger

      • Help you feel more flexible and more coordinated

      • Help you to stand taller with better posture

      • Quiet an anxious mind
